Mission Home

Mission Home

It dawned on me that I had never but in pictures of the mission home after the windows were installed a couple of months ago.  We love having light in the house while the air conditioner is running.  I no longer feel as if I'm in a cave when we are there.

This is a small apartment area in the back of the home where we house the
missionaries when they stay here.

We have a really great view

When Elder Gonzalas saw the home the first time I heard that he said,
"I don't see a pool, I see an oversize baptismal font."....lol😉😂

From this view you can see our really tall cactus on the side of the home...

Guyana (Mar 21-27 2019)

GUYANA

As we were driving we saw a group of kids playing soccer.
This and cricket are probably the biggest sports in our mission
with basketball and baseball next.  (Baseball is huge in Curacao)

These girls belong to a beautiful family that are fairly recent converts.  They were having a great time listening to the songs that were programmed into the Keyboard.  I sang some of the primary songs and hymns with them.  It was really fun because they were trying but didn't know the tunes.   As we practiced they got better.  They have a lot of potential and beautiful voices.  I'm excited to see them blossom in the gospel.

YSA Activity

We had a Young Single Adult activity and talked about family history work.  It was
really a fun activity.  They learned how to enter their own family names as well as index.
As I helped a couple of young men get their information entered it was fun to see them get excited
about finding out more about their ancestors and preserving the history.

This is Jamacie, She is an amazing young woman that is a return missionary
and a real strength to the branch and the YSA program.  I mentioned that
I liked her bracelet and she gave it to me.  It was really fun because it had a tree
on it that reminds us of family history.  (And it matched my outfit)

INTERVIEWS AND PAGWA

Pagwa is a Hindu celebration and they use the colored chalk and water.  Our missionaries can't walk around without
getting doused in color so they just join in the fun.

These two got President Baird and I as we came into the Haakes.  Luckily the Haakes armed
us with some chalk of our own so we could get them too.

The neighbor girls came over to join in the fun.

We made sure that Elder Kennedy & Elder Ching also got to Join in the fun.

Elder Haake said that this is proof that he has "horns".....lol

This was while we were still clean
The Haakes loaned us shirts to wear over our clothes because they knew what was coming....

This is the K&K gas station - the meeting place where the Berbice "taxi" meets the Georgtown "taxi
transporting us from place to place.  That way neither has to drive the whole way.
Kyle doesn't want to rent a car because he says he "doesn't need any more stress" and we like
spending the time with the elders and the senior couples.

Elder Andrews and Elder Allen with one of their "selfies"...lol

This is Sabrina - on her baptism day.  I had a wonderful visit with her while we were waiting
I asked her what the missionaries taught her that changed her life the most.  She said,
"Everything!  I was in a bad place in life before they found me"..
It's so wonderful how the gospel can change someone's life so drastically for the good!!

Visit to Linden......

We went to visit the Emamudin family in Linden
They have an absolutely beautiful farm and grow so many things...
Truly self-reliant!

Elder Bigelow & Elder Curtis

Almost all the water we see in Guyana is brown.  I asked Brother Emamudin
how he was able to have clear water on his property.  He told me that God told
him where to dig.  Talk about extreme faith!  My faith is strengthened when
I meet with the members in our mission!!

Harvesting Casava Root

Elder O'Dair needed a little help....lol
These roots are used a lot like potatoes.
They use them for fries, chips, mashed and other similar uses.

Picking a Lemon - They were HUGE
Molly fixed a wonderful meal for us!
