Guyana (May 2019)

This was our Taxi Driver from the Marriott to the Airport in Trinidad
on our way to Guyana

Leadership Dinner
Elder Aydelotte, Elder Bigelow, Elder Shields, Sister Baird, President Baird, Elder Allen, Elder Norton
Elder Hoard, Elder Deppe, Elder Jones, Elder Pingel, Elder Holman, Elder Hakaumotu

Elder Allen was trying to get President Baird to taste the "little" banana.
President Baird likes banana flavored things but doesn't like to just
sit and eat a banana. Elder Allen is right though, the bananas here
are so good - really sweet.

This "selfie" turned out a little blurry...lol

Elder Shields had been sick and even
in the hospital for a couple of days.
We were so grateful that he felt well
enough to attend Zone Conference.

I love taking pictures of the streets of Guyana.  This is a familiar sight - ladies walking with
an umbrella.  It serves a dual purpose - keeps the sun off and you are always ready if  it decides to rain.

This beautiful lady (Ashley) is being taught by the missionaries.
She attended this baptism and I had the privilege
of sitting by her - Isn't her daughter adorable?

She had the cutest laugh

Got to meet one of my Facebook
friends in person!!

Elder McBride & Elder Chase

I was teasing Elder Norton because it looked like he had
a "diaper" on over his pants with this wet line.

Finished the Called to serve Board that the O'Dairs started

President Baird & Ashell

Elder Leitch & Elder Peterson

This beautiful Family really demonstrated the blessings that come from being willing to Sacrifice.  They told me today about their first experience at the Temple and all the blessings that have come into their life since they have been there.  When they met with their branch president he told them about the Temple Patron Assistant Fund that helps first time temple goers get to the temple. (because it is very expensive for anyone in our mission to go because of the distance)  He then asked them to figure out what their contribution could be to get them there and counseled them to make a sacrifice to get there.  They went home and discussed as a family what things they had in their home that they could sell. They decided to sell anything that was more of a want than a need.  They sold all their jewelry - including their wedding bands.  Their daughter sold all her own jewelry and some of her clothes.  They also sold many other things.  They said that because of this sacrifice that they made, the temple meant so much more to them.  (A fun side note to the story is that another member found out what they had done to get to the temple and she went and bought their wedding bands back for them so that they would have them when they went. )  What an amazing example of a willingness to follow the Savior.  It was especially appropriate today because in the Sunday School the Come Follow Me lesson was about the rich man who asked the Savior what he needed to do to have eternal life.  The Savior said, sell all that you have and follow me.  This family showed a willingness to do exactly that!!

Sometimes the travel is hard but most of the time I actually enjoy it...I meet some of the most incredible people on planes. Today I had an amazing conversation with this beautiful lady!! We felt an instant connection. What a story she has, she is strong and has overcome so much in her life to make a better life for her children. What an inspiration!! Thanks Sheeneeza!!
