An Unexpected Trip to Trinidad

President Baird had a meeting with some of the Area authorities in Trinidad that was scheduled on Sunday, November 4th.  Because of how crazy some of our flights are we can only get to Trinidad on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.  Because the meeting was on Sunday morning it meant that we had to fly to Trinidad on Thursday and then back to Curacao on Tuesday for the meeting on Sunday....It seemed a little crazy but we took the opportunity we had to be there for that long to do some ministering.  We did some "spot" checks on the Elder's apartments (because they were not expecting us to be there)  President Baird has always wanted to get over to Tobago.  There is a small branch of the church on the Island of Tobago.  The branch president there is a young man (only 23 years old and single)  President Baird only had a description of him as being athletic in build with dread locks and his name was President George.   He and the Zone Leaders went over Monday morning (a short 15-min flight) to Tobago to check out the apartment we still rent over there and explore the possibility of putting missionaries or a Senior Couple back on that Island.   They had arranged with President George to pick them up.  When they arrived President George wasn't there yet so they called him.  He said he was almost there so they waited.  After a short time, he drove up and motioned them over to his car and they climbed in and started on their drive around the island.  President Baird was asking questions about the island...."President George, tell me about this.... tell me about that......"  After about 10 minutes the man looked over at him and asked, in his Trinidad accent,....."Yo Man, why da ya keep callin' me President George?".....  One of the Zone Leaders in the back said,  "Wait, are you just a taxi driver?"  The driver said, "Ya, I'm a Taxi driva"....  They all started to laugh...they had gotten in the wrong car.  They called President George and he said, "Why did you get in another car just as I was pulling up?".... So the driver took them back to the airport....He told them his name was Israel.  President Baird told him that was not a coincidence that they got into his taxi.  They were here to "gather Israel".  Told him a little about the church and invited he and his wife to come on Sunday.  The man accepted the invitation.  Not sure if he went or not but we believe that things do happen for a reason.  Kind of a funny story anyway.....😂
