Kaieteur Tour (11 FEB 2018)

Kaieteur
(Kaie's Falls)

For P-Day we went with all the Senior Couples in Guyana to Kaieteur.  It was a very misty/rainy day but it was wonderful that we had little moments of clear where we could see the falls.  We counted this as our little miracle for the day.  The second little falls, Orinduik, we went to was a much dryer area about a 20 minute flight from Kaieteur.  It was right on the Border between Guyana and Brazil.  It was really fun to watch as a few of the native families saw our plane come in and they brought some of their handmade goods to sell to us.  We bought a couple of little necklaces for our granddaughter.

I found a little interesting information about Kaieteur....

Kaieteur Falls is the world's largest single drop waterfall by the volume of water flowing over it. Located on the Potaro River in the Kaieteur National Park, it sits in a section of the Amazon rainforest included in the Potaro-Siparuni region of Guyana. It is 226 metres (741 ft) high when measured from its plunge over a sandstone and conglomerate cliff to the first break. It then flows over a series of steep cascades that, when included in the measurements, bring the total height to 251 metres (822 ft). While many falls have greater height, few have the combination of height and water volume, and Kaieteur is among the most powerful waterfalls in the world with an average flow rate of 663 cubic metres per second (23,400 cubic feet per second).

There were  quite a few of these helicopters at the airport.
They take workers out to the oil rigs.

Not a very big plane......
This is the same one we fly over to Suriname on

741 foot drop....... (5X the size of Niagara Falls)

Kyle wouldn't get anywhere near the edge......
he hates heights / steep drop-offs.

There were moments when we couldn't see the falls at all and then it would clear
just enough that we got breathtaking views!!  What a wonderful day!!
